Question about my hair..?

Kayy. So I like to straighten my hair a lot, but I have naturally curly hair. I just received a new Chi straightener for Christmas and, thinking it would make my hair look like everyone elses that straightens their hair with Chi straighteners, I straightened my hair hoping it would be all nice. It didn't.. I mean it didnt come out HORRIBLE, but it still was like, not how i expected it to look. It worked a little better than my old $30 straightener, but still didn't look as good as I wanted it to. My hair turned out kinda frizzy and, the way my bangs are cut (my stylist like razored it a lot), I have random pieces of hair that like to stick up while the rest is straight and doesn't stick up. And time after time, I try straightening it, hoping it'll make those pieces not stick up anymore, but then I get MORE pieces sticking up. And I probably should mention that I don't use heat protection. I know I really should, but my mom refuses to take me out to buy some.. Well it's not that she refuses, it's just she keeps procrastinating on taking me. But i finally bugged her into taking me sometime this week. I don't wanna go in there and look confused or get an item that doesn't work very well.. So I was just wondering if there were any products that could make my hair frizzy and any good heat protectants that I can use??
