How do you prove that a chemical reaction occured between Calcium Chloride and Sodium Carbonate?

I did an experiment dissolving sodium carbonate and calcium chloride into water, and then mixing them together. There was this milky mixture that seemed to have formed ontop of water. I'm not quite sure how to prove a chemical reaction occured because there is no precipitate, temperature or colour change and there was apparently no gas produced.
